Berluda's meerkat experience takes you into a 2,500-hectare private game reserve in the
Schoemanshoek Valley for an early-morning encounter with our resident meerkat families. Guided by an accredited field guide,
you'll watch them emerge from their burrows at sunrise — one of the most intimate wildlife experiences available in the Klein
Karoo. Open to day visitors and overnight guests. Pre-booking required.
Paying a sunrise visit to our local meerkat family is not to be missed when staying with us. The minibus departs from Berluda parking, and 8km down the road, guests will change over to an open game viewer. Venture into our private game reserve with an accredited and experienced field guide to visit our local meerkat families. Watch them emerge from their cosy bunkers to bask in the morning sun and learn more about these fascinating little creatures from your guide. Other animals in the reserve include springbok, wildebeest, nyala, kudu, eland, bat-eared jackal, and an array of indigenous birds and flora. Tours are weather-dependent and subject to availability. Departure times are early morning and subject to change (seasonal).

Yes you can, book via telephone or email.

In summer, around 05:00, in winter around 07:00.

Our meerkat tour is much more of a safari with wild meerkats and a little bit of other animal spotting as well, you don't just see the meerkats, you experience a karoo safari with information on the karoo veld and other animals.
3. Is the meerkat tour suitable for children?
Yes, but only at 8 years or older.
4. What animals will I see besides meerkats?
Giraffe, antelope like springboks, kudu, waterbuck, and buffalo, etc.
