Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is there ostrich riding on the Berluda ostrich tour?

No. Ostrich riding has not been permitted in South Africa for several years due to animal welfare regulations. As a working ostrich farm, the wellbeing of our birds is our priority, and we believe in showcasing them in a respectful and authentic way.

3. Can children join the ostrich tour?

Yes! The tour is suitable for all ages and is designed to be family-friendly. Our experienced guides engage with children throughout the tour, adapting the experience to suit younger guests while ensuring the whole family enjoys it.

2. How is Berluda different from Highgate or Safari Ostrich Farm?

Berluda is a genuine working ostrich farm, not a show farm. With more than 25,000 ostriches, we are one of the largest ostrich farms in the world. During the tour, you'll also visit our hatchery in town, one of the largest ostrich hatcheries in the world, where you can often see chicks hatching during the season. This gives guests a rare behind-the-scenes look at every stage of ostrich farming, making the experience far more in-depth, authentic, and informative while still being enjoyable and interactive.

4. How long is the tour?

Approximately 2 hours. The duration may vary slightly depending on the number of questions guests have and the time spent at our small curio shop along the way.

5. Can I visit just for the tour without staying overnight?

Yes, you can. However, we highly recommend staying overnight at Berluda to enjoy the complete farm experience—from waking up to ostriches outside your room to experiencing our peaceful Karoo hospitality, delicious breakfast, and everything else Berluda has to offer.
